Freshwater
Open Water Season April 1 - Sept 30
Ice Fishing Jan 1 -March 31

Landlocked Salmon
Maine's prized freshwater sportfish. From Ice out in late April to the beginning of warmwater season in early June is the best time. Canoe trips at dawn or sundown can sometimes catch the beautiful silvery fish playing and feeding on the top water. Trolling lakes on early summer mornings can also have results. Northern Maine rivers are reknown for this landlocked descendant of the Atlantic Salmon.
Lake Trout - Tougue
This deep water species is best pursued on early mornings or overcast days. Slow Trolling of deep water ledges and drop offs can yield tremendous fish. Ice out to midsummer sunrise trips can yield sizable fish on many of the State of Maine's pristine cold water lakes.
Brook Trout
This my all time favorite fish. Maybe it was my love affair bushwacking the local brooks as a kid but I love hitting the rocky streams and ponds in search of Brookies. Their blue, red and yellow speckles and sweet orange and cream undermarkings and their daring strikes make an all day bushwack feel like a childhood daydream.
Brown Trout
There's nothing quite like taking a Brown while feeding at dusk or dawn of a spring or early summer day...the quick slap and sudden plunge of the line. Abundant in many Maine rivers and lakes due to the efforts to the State's Stocking Program...the Brown has characteristic rust brown spots on its silvery sides. Fall can be a great time to try for Sea Run Browns and they are also an ice fishing favorite.
Rainbow Trout
The loveliest of the Trout family is found in the waters of the Western Mountains of Maine. Their delicately glistening pink hues reflecting off the ripples of sunlight cast a certain enchantment when these beauties race by your canoe.
Samllmouth and Largemouth Bass
Bass are the great summertime fish in the lakes and rivers of Maine. The hot action starts in Late May-Early June around spawning time and continues throughout mid-summer. Late summer action can be found in the rivers where the cooler flowing water keeps them active throughout the summer months.
Pickerel
Ferocious is their stike... darting out from weedbeds and undergrowth to rip and shred your lure. Teeth gnashing , twisting , turning and running... these badboys are such great fun and will hit all day sometimes when no other fish will bite. A great all season fish. Summer and Winter.
White Perch
White Perch can actually get quite large in the lakes and ponds of Maine where 2-3 pounders are not uncommon. They also migrate through many of the rivers of Maine that connect larger bodies of water. Watch out for their spiney backs and fins when removing hooks.
Yellow Perch
Great Fun for the kids. Perch like to hang out in large schools. All it takes is a small peice of worm and a bobber and they'll keep hitiing and hitting and hitting. Watch out for their spiney backs and fins when removing hooks.
Whitefish
Whitefish are quite numerous in many lakes, ponds and major rivers of Maine and can grow to 12-15 inches or more. There is much fun to be had when you hit large pockets of these fish.
Suckers
Don't count out Suckers and Chubs when you're out there fishing. They may be ugly but they can be huge and a good fight. They'll grab, run and roll with the best of them and where there's suckers there's usually other fish. I've hit them on top with flys as well as fishing the bottom with worms.
