Waterford Village on Keoka Lake is a Maine classic. Beautiful white colonial homes in a small village center right on the water.
I love watching the sun come up over Bear Mountain and Hawk Meadow Mountain while ice fishing on Bear Pond. It’s a beautiful sight to see, as the crows, high up on the cliffs of the mountain, squawk and call in the new morning light.
Up the road apiece from the village you can grab a buffalo burger at Melby’s Market and Eatery grown right up the street at Beech Hill Farm and Bison Ranch . The Kezar Falls Gorge is a unique natural land formation with a beautiful waterfall that can be accessed from Five Kezars Rd in Waterford across from Melby’s. It’s a long dirt road past the Five Kezar Ponds and you’ve got to be looking for the turn that goes off the road to the small dirt lot but it’s worth the trip. And there’s Keoka Beach Campground if you want to pitch a tent or bring your camper.
McWain Pond is home to Camp Waziyatah, and Birch Rock Camp – a couple of summer away camps for kids and a really lovely pond. The Crooked River also runs through Waterford and spots like Twin Bridges and Mill Hill Road are great spots to fly fish.
