Hiram

The Ossipee Valley Fair takes place in South Hiram as does the Ossipee Valley Music Festival at the fairgrounds along the bank of the Ossipee River. Apple Acres in South Hiram has the freshest apples and also a bluegrass music festival which coincides with the Cornish Apple Festival in late September. Stay at the cottages at Oak Hill Farm and hike to the summit of Oak Hill or visit them on the fourth Sunday of March for Maple Syrup Sunday.

For you History Buffs: Hiram was founded on the 7800 acres owned by Revolutionary War veteran, Peleg Wadsworth, grandfather of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who was a captain of a Minutemen squadron at the Battle of Lexington and Concord and also a senator and first congressman representing the District of Maine which was once part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
