Scarborough has some of the most fabulous beaches along Maine’s coast. Scarborough Beach, Higgins Beach, Ferry Beach(Scarborough) and Pine Point are all long white sand beaches, if you are here to play in the sun. Great spots for winter walks as well!  But watch for the signs and please don’t disturb the areas with nesting Terns.

Rte.1 divides Scarborough into the ocean side and the inland side.

Neighborhoods near Pleasant Hill, Spurwink Ave, Higgins Beach, Oak Hill, Black Point, Prouts Neck, Winnocks Neck, Old Neck, and Pine Point are all very close to the ocean or to Scarborough Marsh – a vast estuary of rivers worth exploring by canoe, kayak or boat.

Inland of Rte. 1 are suburban  areas near Payne Rd which has also an extended area near the shopping centers of the Maine Mall. Neighborhoods adjacent to Rt.114 (Gorham Rd), Holmes Rd, Beech Ridge R, Broadturn Rd have a mix of either rural character and older homes or subdivisions filled with large newer homes. Something for everyone!

Willowdale and Nonesuch River Golf Courses are easy to find and worth a day on the links.
