Long beautiful peninsulas like fingers pointing out to the ocean. Salt water estuaries and seals playing on the rocks. A string of islands connected by bridges until you come to lands end and the Lobsterman Statue.
Harpswell is really a collection of fishing villages mixed with seasonal and old family homes. Places like Basin Point, Orr’s Island and Bailey’s Island, South Harpswell and Cundy’s Harbor being places of last refuge on a foggy night. You take a step back in time when you visit these magical places. Eagle Island is a boat ride away. Once the home of famed Arctic explorer Admiral Robert E. Perry, it is now a state park and a treasure for the people of Maine.
And you say you want seafood – this is the freshest you’ll find anywhere. Cooks Lobster House has been serving it up fresh off the boat since 1955.
And if you want to sit back and relax – let Casco Bay Lines take you from Portland to Harpswell and back again on the Bailey island Cruise. It’s about a 6 hour round trip and you might want to bring a coat because even in summer it can get a little nippy out on the water.
