April Fishing Report
Open water season has opened here in Maine - that is if you can find open water. Heavy snows this year (103" in Portland - alot more the further north you roam) have left considerable snow pack everywhere. In the Sebago region there is still a couple of feet of snow almost everywhere you look. Brooks and streams are starting to open up and the familiar spots like Songo Locks are crowded with anxious anglers. Ice is slowly starting to recede but as of today 4/7 Sebago remains ice locked although she is darkening and will probably start breaking up over the next couple of weeks but it will probably be a late ice out everywhere this year.
So the best bet - brooks and streams - although the water remains cold with snow melt - on some warmer days you may entice the fish to bite. Work the deeper pools where they should still be holding and as daytime temperatures rise these next couple of weeks - look for the stocking trucks to start their rounds.
